Chocolate and Orange Cake Recipe

A slice of chocolate cake with orange filling

Ingredients

Sponge

  • 180 g chocolate sponge mix
  • 3 eggs
  • 45 ml milk
  • 45 g butter (melted)
  • Chocolate Filling

  • 1 orange (sliced)
  • 100 ml of water
  • 100 g of sugar
  • 200 g of fresh cream (whipped)
  • 250 g of chocolate decor gel
  • Preparation

    1. To make sponge cake, preheat oven to 180°C; line bottom of a 18cm (7-in) cake tin with greaseproof paper.
    2. Beat sponge mix, eggs and milk in a mixer with high speed until light and fluffy.
    3. Turn to low speed, fold in melted butter until well blended.
    4. Spread batter into prepared tin and bake for 30 minutes.
    5. Remove from oven and cool completely, split into 3 layers.
    6. To make filling, bring water and sugar to boil.
    7. Add in orange slices.
    8. Continue cook until sugar is thickens.
    9. Remove and leave to cool.
    10. Drain well and chop orange.
    11. Spread cream on a slice of cake, follow with chopped orange, spread cream and sandwich with sponge cake.
    12. Continue layering until finished.
    13. Coat cake and refrigerate for a while.
    14. Coat cake with decor gel. Decorate as desired.
