Funnel Cake Recipe

Ingredients

 Makes 6 cakes/ 6 servings
  • Vegetable oil
  • 1 cup flour
  • ¾ cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon double acting baking powder
  • ⅛ teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg
  • Confectioners sugar

Method

  1. Before serving, heat about ¾ inches vegetable oil to 370ºF in a 12 inches skillet over medium heat.
  2. Meanwhile, mix flour, milk, baking powder, salt and egg in a medium size bowl with a wire whisk or fork.
  3. Holding a narrow spouted funnel/ ½ inches spout, close the spout with your finger.
  4. Pour a scant ¼ cup of the batter into the funnel. Over the hot oil, carefully remove your finger to let the batter run out in a steam, while making spiral about 6 inches in diameter.
  5. Fry for 6 to 8 minutes, or until golden brown, turning once with tongs. Drain well on paper towels. Repeat with remaining batter, stir well before pouring.
  6. Sprinkle cakes lightly with confectioners sugar, serve warm.
